Located in the historically rich areas of North Paravur and Muziris, Chendamangalam has many interesting stories of trading communities traveling from far and wide to the area. Cherai the scenic beach town, and the farming lands of Pokkali surround the Chendamangalam area.
Once a local narrated to us that Chendamangalam was earlier called, Chennal Mangalam, the place that would bestow prosperity to those who go there. Such were the riches of the land that brought the earliest Jewish, Arab, Roman traders to its ports.
Thenari, Kodumba, and Devangapuram, Palakkad
Thenari, Kodumba, and Devangapuram are among the historic hereditary weaving settlements in Kerala. Located on the riverbank of Bharathapuzha, these settlements carry stories of migration, culture, artisanal livelihoods, and myriad experiences and explorations for the traveller.
Each of these settlements are unique in its communal histories, cultural practises, and weaving traditions. Experiencing rural life along with the locals, and learning the traditional weaving process will encompass the weaving trails of Palakkad.
